There is an editorial team of five reporters and a news editor based in our Albert Street offices in Kirkwall. The news editor is Margaret Carr with a reporting team made up of Lorraine Shearer, Sigurd Towrie, Leah Seator, Cheryl Campbell and Ian Johnston. Sigurd is also the newspaper's sub-editor. Journalists working for the newspaper have to pass strict, exacting exams set by the National Council of Journalists. All are required to have shorthand speeds of 100 words per minute to ensure accuracy. Around 11,000 copies of the newspaper are sold every week to a loyal readership eager to know what's going on around Orkney. The news columns carry a diverse selections of stories and features from all around the islands and there's generally no shortage of current affairs to report. For quick and efficient transfer of information, the newsroom, in the heart of Kirkwall, is linked by computer to the company's Hatston Print Centre on the outskirts of the town.
