Rendall end 20-year wait for second Thornley Binders success

Rendall celebrate with the Thornley Binders Cup after their 2-1 win against Stromness Burgh this afternoon.

Rendall ended a 20-year wait to get their hands on the Thornley Binders Cup, overcoming Stromness Burgh 2-1 on a blustery Sunday afternoon.

Adam Watt scored the winning goal, prodding home following a corner to secure Rendall’s second Binders success, two decades after their first in 1997.

Rendall striker Gus Barclay grabbed the opening goal in the last action of an even, if scrappy first-half, using his head to send the ball into the net.

Ben Craigie restored parity for Stromness, who, despite pushing hard to send the game into extra-time, could not beat a resolute Rendall rearguard.
