Pier Arts centre celebrates Orkney’s young artists

A piece work by Russell Gilmour, one of the ten recent graduates included in Innovators – Orkney’s Art Graduates 2015 & 2016.

The work of the latest generation of Orkney artist is on show at a new exhibition opening in the Pier Arts Centre today, Saturday.

Innovators – Orkney’s Art Graduates 2015 & 2016 features artists who work in a broad variety of media including, film and photography, product design, landscape architecture and jewellery.

The artists in this exhibition are Rachel Blair, Susan Boyd, Anna Clark, Erlend Firth, Leanne Fischler, Emma Fraser, Russell Gilmour, Samantha Marwick, Charlotte Slater and Kirstin Wishart.

Innovators is the twelfth exhibition of Orkney art graduates held at the Stromness gallery since 1979, promoting the work of over 90 artists.

Also opening today is Peedie Pier – Primary and Junior Secondary School Artwork.

This exhibition includes work made by some of Orkney’s youngest artists from primary and junior secondary schools throughout the county who are encouraged in their art-making by the specialist art teachers who bring their knowledge, skills and enthusiasm to Orkney’s schools.
