Jack Norquoy and Calum McArthur have been elected to represent Orkney as Members of the Scottish Youth Parliament.

The result was announced this afternoon in the OIC chamber by Orkney returning officer Alistair Buchan.

Stromness Academy pupil Jack, 17 , who was re-elected, said: “I’m feeling absolutely overwhelmed, but absolutely humbled.

“I’m really honoured that young people in Orkney have got engaged in this election and they would like to see me as MSYP again.”

Sixteen-year-old Calum, who attends KGS, added: “I hope I can bring a strong voice — a voice that’s representative of Orkney’s young people.

“I will be listening to young people and making an active effort to speak to people about their views.”

There were 569 valid votes cast with a 19.3 per cent turnout.

The other two candidates standing in the election were Brooke Mitchell and Isla Leslie.
