Orkney’s football and rugby sides set to return to action

Orkney’s last match was at home to Tain St. Duthus before Christmas.

Both Orkney RFC and Orkney FC hope to get their first games of the year under their belts this weekend, with Orkney FC hosting a top-of-the-table clash against Invergordon in Dounby, while the rugby players travel south.

First meets second in the mouth-watering fixture in Dounby, as Orkney FC prepare for a vital 12.30pm kick-off against league leaders Invergordon. It is a match which the islanders can barely afford to lose on Saturday, with nine points separating the sides in the North Caledonian League table, albeit with Orkney having played two games less.

Meanwhile, Orkney RFC travel south to face Lasswade in a 1pm kick-off.

Orkney have been thwarted twice in their efforts to get the second half of their campaign underway, and are currently eighth in BT National League Division 3, 15 points behind Saturday’s opponents in fourth. However, they do have games in hand over every team in the league. Orkney beat Lasswade at home 23-20 in October.
