Orkney RFC lose out 14- 19 to Dumfries Saints

Orkney RFC lost their home fixture versus Dumfries Saints RFC in BT National Division 3.

On a bitterly cold afternoon at Pickaquoy, Orkney, playing into a howling wind, managed to hold the visitors to 7-8 at half time — Graham Poke converting his own try for the home side’s points.

However, with the wind at their backs in the second half Orkney failed to capitalise, and were increasingly on the wrong side of the referee’s whistle. And their cause was not helped when he awarded Dumfries three points for a penalty that looked to have drifted wide.

A Darren McLean try, and superb touch-line conversion by Jon Tait, pulled Orkney level at 14-14, but a well-drilled Dumfries showed why they are in contention for promotion, and had enough to close out the game with a well-worked score of their own.
