Sunday night saw a fine display of the Aurora Borealis.

Out observing the phenomenon was Rousay-based astronomer John Vetterlein.

He said: “There was an intense auroral glow lasting several hours from evening twilight.

“There was little ‘dancing’ but rays were present and the glow became fragmented into patches at times, rising to an altitude of some 40 arc-degrees and more. A beautiful, starlit night ensued, the finest so far this year.”
