MSYP election candidates announced

sypThe names of the candidates hoping to be elected as Orkney’s Members of the Scottish Youth Parliament have been announced.

Elections will take place in March next year.

The candidates are:

  • Archie Cannon (Kirkwall Grammar School)
  • Calum McArthur (Kirkwall Grammar School)
  • Isla Leslie (Kirkwall Grammar School)
  • Jack Norquoy (Stromness Academy)
  • Brooke Mitchell (Stromness Academy)

The candidates will be supported over the next two months to put together manifestos in advance of election campaigns in the New Year.

The Scottish Youth Parliament represents Scotland’s young people. Their democratically elected members listen to and recognise the issues that are most important to young people, ensuring that their voices are heard by the country’s decision makers. They strive for a stronger, more inclusive Scotland that empowers young people by involving them in the decision making process.

There are three national sittings of the parliament each year, with two members elected for each constituency for a term of two years.
