Kirkwall Lifeboat has now returned to station after being stood down while on the way to a trawler with engine problems.

Earlier tonight at 7.25pm the lifeboat launched to go to the assistance of a trawler east of Start Point with engine issues, however when the lifeboat was about 20 minutes away the crew of the Maggie M reported they had fixed the problem and no longer required assistance.

Shetland Coastguard stood down the RNLI crew, however in a twist to the tale, the eagle eyed crew spotted something in the water whilst east of Auskerry, it turned out to be an old fridge which has been recovered for safe disposal ashore.
