Harvey Johnston is OIC’s new convener

OIC convener, Councillor Harvey Johnston.

Harvey Johnston has been appointed convener at the first full meeting of the new Orkney Islands Council.

The West Mainland councillor was nominated by Councillors Leslie Manson and Owen Tierney. There were no other nominations.

The previous council agreed earlier this year to change the leadership roles in the authority.

Many of the duties that were previously performed by the council’s convener and vice-convener will now be undertaken by a  political leader and depute leader.

The new convener is to take on the duties of a civic head with the authority.
