Football and rugby teams hit the road

Orkney FC could finish runners-up with points in their last game.

Orkney’s football and rugby teams are both on the road this weekend as their respective leagues draw to a close.

Orkney FC have a chance to secure second place in the North Caledonian League tomorrow, when they take on bottom side Alness United.

Invergordon have already clinched the title but third-place Orkney could leapfrog Halkirk United who are currently second.

The Caithness side, who have a better goal difference, have completed all their league fixtures, while tomorrow’s fixture is Orkney’s last league game of the season.

The game is scheduled to kick-off at 12.45pm at Dalmore Park.

Orkney RFC have three games remaining.

• Meanwhile, Orkney RFC travel to Glasgow Academicals to try and fulfil a league fixture that has been cancelled three times already this season due to travel issues and, on the last occasion, a frozen pitch.

It is their third last match in BT National League Division 3 this season.

Orkney are sitting in eighth place, with seven wins from 19 outings, while Glasgow Accies, sitting in third with 14 wins from 21, still have a chance of promotion.

Kick-off at New Anniesland is at 11am.
