ships which have served Orkney over the years

The
North of Scotland Steam Navigation Company's Earl of Zetland leaving
Kirkwall Pier. Introduced in August 1939, she was the company's
first diesel-powered vessel. The Earl of Zetland plied the route
between Lerwick-Kirkwall- Aberdeen until 1975.

P
& O's first ro-ro cargo vessel in the Northern Isles fleet, St
Magnus, was bought by the company in 1978 after a period on charter.
In addition to serving Orkney and Shetland, the St Magnus began
a freight service between Aberdeen and Norway and Denmark.
