The ships which have served Orkney over the years

St Ola 1

The first St Ola to operate across the Pentland Firth from Stromness plied the route for a remarkable 59 years, from 1892 until 1951. She carried many of the service personnel back and fore from Orkney during both world wars.

The St Ola (II) which operated on the Stromness-Scrabster route between 1951-1974, until the introduction of ro-ro.
