Prayers answered as Jon and Federico are evicted
By Lorraine Shearer
(Story dated June 26, 2003)

Orkney’s Cameron Stout defied the odds and escaped a double eviction on Friday night to secure his place in the Big Brother house.

Jon and Fed fell foul of the public vote and were ousted as the genuine and sensitive qualities of the 32-year-old fish trader continued to win the hearts of many across the UK.

Earlier on Friday, Cameron went to the diary room to talk to Big Brother about the impending evictions.

“I do not want to make a big song and dance about it,” he said. “There is a chance there will be a quiver in my voice.”

He said he would miss Steph and Gos the most if he were to go, further fuelling speculation that he and Steph could become an item.

Asked how he will remember the house, he replied: “With a big smile!”

Federico
Out . . . Federico

Federico – the fourth person to be evicted – was first to go on Friday night at about 8.50pm.

Big Brother host Davina McCall made the second announcement at 10.25pm.

The pause, before she called the housemate’s name went on forever. But Jon was not surprised it was him.

He had earlier in the week predicted that he and Fed would have no chance against Cameron.

During his interview with Davina, Jon predicted that Cameron or Scott will win.

WEDNESDAY

After finding out he is to be up for eviction, Cameron goes into the Big Brother diary room with his Bible.

“I do not know how appropriate this is and other people might think it is silly,” he said.

But he reads a passage from the Bible, and claims the Good Book has twice come up with the goods. It basically told him not to fret, and he said he had not been fretful all day, despite the nomination.

Cameron is in the garden with Steph and he is worried about what to wear on eviction night, if he goes. Decisions, decisions . . . should it be the cord combats or the ordinary combats?

Jon, who has survived three evictions, is convinced he and Federico will lose to Cameron.

“He must be appealing to all the young ladies out there, a sensitive man who talks nicely to the ladies.”

But Cameron, on the other hand, is sure he will go.

He tells Steph: “I do not feel anything – it is weird. I expect to go on Friday.”

However, TV comic Graham Norton is backing Cameron all the way, saying he must stay in the house.

“I like him. Even the girls have said if Cameron goes, they will be gutted”.

THURSDAY

Cameron and Nush get frisky. They wind up the other housemates by flirting outrageously with each other.

The housemates pass their first task meaning they have £150 to spend on the week’s shopping, but they still argue over what to get.

FRIDAY

Jon
Loser . . . Jon

Cameron talks about the local paper and wonders if he has had a mention as he is up for eviction!

A mention? He has covered an entire page every week since he went into the house more than a month ago!

The house re-adjusts after the departure of Jon and Fed – it doesn’t seem to take them long.

SATURDAY

It is task day again in the Big Brother house.

As they gather around the table, they are asked to select two housemates to take part in the geographical challenge.

Nush umpires as Cameron and Ray are asked to identify five countries each on a map of the world.

The Orcadian correctly identified all five – Mongolia, Cameroon, Canada, Saudi Arabia and Sweden. Ray named four correctly.

There are seven housemates left, but Cameron is only allowed to choose five others to come into the secret room with him for their prize.

Surprisingly, he opts for Ray, Scott, Gos, Steph and Tania to join him in the reward room, leaving only Nush – with whom he is very close – to stew in the house on her own.

Cameron looks devastated after making his choice, and is quick to console Nush. He tells her there is some Orkney fudge in his toilet bag.

The winning housemates are treated to an eight-course gourmet meal accompanied by champagne and fine wine.

SUNDAY

Cameron takes on a special task this morning. He is told he has minutes to pack and leave the British show for two weeks – and he isn’t allowed to tell the others anything about it.

MONDAY

He is flown to South Africa in a private jet after Big Brother reveals that South African Big Brother contestant Gaetano Kagwa will be switching places with Cameron.

But the housemates are blissfully unaware of what is going on and think Cameron is still stuck in the reward room, on his own with nothing to do.

As they enjoy their luxury shop this week, they repeatedly offer Cameron reassurances that they are rooting for him. Cameron however, has been gone for hours and the room is empty.

TUESDAY

Cameron steps out to meet his new housemates in the African house and is quickly made welcome after his long journey. He immediately notices differences between the two houses. And although he cannot be nominated for eviction, he makes the call back to England to say Tania and Nush be put to the public vote. He is now faced with the task of making masks with his new mates.
