Orkneys Cameron Stout has gone from being an unknown fish trader to having one of the most recognisable faces in Britain and he wouldnt change it for the world. I would do it all again; I would not hesitate, the winner of Big Brother 4 enthused from his home in Harray last week. The latest BB gets under way tonight, Friday, at 10pm on Channel Four and Camerons phone has been red hot. Its gone a bit mad again, he said. Everyone is trying to get hold of me. But its not that easy, as Cameron passes most inquiries on to his agent in London. Yes, he still has an agent despite the sceptics who believed he would have disappeared into oblivion a few months after leaving the BB house. Cameron, who turned 33 in March - leading to a deluge of female fanmail - will be glued to his television screen. I cannot wait for the new one to start, to see what the new characters and the new house are like. I think it will be easier now to spot if there are any fakes. Talking of fakes, he has been told that the Welsh witch, Lisa, who was in the house for a short spell last year, has tried her hand again this time round. Apparently Lisa has sneaked along to the auditions this year in disguise! She called me a psycho in the press it takes one to know one, he said. The former international trader in fish will be writing a newspaper column throughout the series, giving his opinions on whats going on in the house.
It is rumoured that the revamped property, based in London, will have a shared bedroom, mud baths, jacuzzi and walk-in group shower in a bid to spice up the antics of the contestants. While he continues to reap the benefits of appearing on the show, it has only recently started to sink in that he won. I will never forget walking into the big central living room, but I remember very little about the night I won. I have been so busy, Ive never had time to sit and reflect, he said. He won a £70,000 cash prize and the national media speculated that he could easily earn a million in his first year. Whether or not he actually has remains to be seen and hes not telling. I will not be telling you or anybody else that, he assured. Luxury purchases have been few and far between. He has a great love of cars and recently sold his Audi. Im on the hunt for a new car or two, he admitted. And I want to get my MG, the first car I ever bought, restored. While his bank balance has certainly swelled, so it would seem, has his little black book. Valentines Day, this year, was an eye-opener. I would say I got dozens, rather than hundreds of cards, Cameron continued. One was addressed to Cameron Stout, Orkney and, another, just This is for Cameron. Asked if he replied to any of his fanmail, or had any interest in forging a relationship with any of the women, he said coyly: I do like to write back to folk. In March, on my birthday, what a lot of lovely presents I got. One lass was very thoughtful and sent a lovely metal CD case and inside was ten CDs. It was all brilliant music from the time I was learning to drive to my college era, which has a lot of memories. He admits that he has had trouble finding time to dedicate to a serious relationship, although there have been a few short-term encounters. With a panto season already under his belt, stints on radio, magazine shoots and regular appearances, Cameron is getting ready for his own television show on the BBC, Teen Commandments. It will involve a lot of schools and seeing what young people are really concerned about and what they would like to change and what they wish grown-ups would shut up about. Cameron is to star in a musical being launched in Edinburgh in September called Blude Red. It is more historical and all about peoples battles and strife a few centuries ago. I am hoping to do panto this year. I am going to be in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs contrary to popular belief I am not going to be Grumpy or Dopey, but Prince Charming! A year on and his life has changed considerably, with less time than he would like spent in Orkney with his mum and dad, Doris and John. Doris and Camerons brother, Julyan Sinclair, were regular attenders at the London studios on eviction nights. His privacy has gone, but he insists there have been no downsides - despite a vibrant internet forum network with venomous talk about him. I wish I had more time at home but thats it. The great thing is charities and organisations want you to be their ambassador which is great. Cameron continued: I have not really had a lifestyle change I used to travel and meet a lot of folk. In fact, this year I have spent the least time abroad than in the past ten years.
Everyone thinks it will be very glamorous and jet set. I have had a week in America and Africa. He still gets stopped wherever he goes. It is strange. As far as I am concerned I am the same old me. Some folk hated me for nine weeks. The folk that do not like you do not tend to speak to you in the street. A lot of stuff in the papers was negative and Ive got the odd letter that was a bit strange, not complimentary. There is a very vibrant internet forum network a lot of them are venomous. That allows them to keep their identity a secret. But on the other side of the coin, a lot of fan sites are devoted to Cameron. Christian, Cameron, melted the heart of the shows presenter, Davina McCall, according to an interview with the Daily Record newspaper, where she is quoted as saying she knew he would win from the start. I love Cameron - he was so funny. I thought he was brilliant, and loved the fact that people thought he was faking it, because he so wasnt, she said. The feeling is obviously mutual. You never get to meet Davina through the whole programme but she is your sole link to the outside world. She is lovely and just as you see her on the TV. Special moments from the house included the cabaret, suggested by Cameron, to keep them amused. I hate doing that kind of thing normally, but everybody took part in it with such effort and threw themselves at it. His trip to the Big Brother house in Africa and Christmas Day were also memorable occasions. But making long-term friends has been the greatest factor to come out of the experience. I have still got friends in Africa with whom I am still in touch. I was over in Dublin for Rays birthday and Im staying with Gos tonight (last Thursday). Despite the popularity that Big Brother has brought him, Orkney will always remain his home unless a beautiful woman whisks me off to New York. His job remains on hold . . . as this appears to be a rollercoaster ride that he intends staying on as long as possible! |
