Twenty-one-year-old Grant Thomson from Orphir has just spent eight weeks working at a summer camp in America.

While enthusing about the whole experience, he admits it was tough going, taking on the role of mother and father to some of the 200 youngsters who spent their summer holidays at Camp Thoreau in the state of Vermont this year.

Thirteen ploughers on the Sands for annual South Ronaldsay event

  Thirteen competitors took part in this year’s South Ronaldsay Boys’ Ploughing Match at the Sands o’ Wright on Saturday, August 17..

Following on from the judging of the ‘horses’ at the school in St Margaret’s Hope, around 150 spectators made the short journey out to the beach to take in the ploughing match.
