Royal Navy mine hunters HMS Blyth and HMS Ramsey, which will both take part in Joint Warrior.

Areas around Orkney are to play host to various military training exercises, as Exercise Joint Warrior gets underway.

It will run from this Sunday until April 6, with naval activity to be focussed in areas off the Northern and Western coasts of Scotland.

35 naval units, 52 aircraft and several land-based units from the three branches of the UK military, as well as from several European countries and the US, will be included in Joint Warrior.

According to the Royal Navy, the relevant authorities, including aviation and maritime communities, have been consulted and procedures are in place for unforeseen eventualities.

Joint Warrior is held twice a year, in the spring and autumn.
