Charities vie for spot in Academy competition

Local charities will gather at Stromness Academy today, Wednesday, in hope of securing a spot in a challenge worth £3,000.

They’ll be vying for support from S3 pupils, who will use the fair as a chance to find out more about each organisation before choosing a charity to champion in the school’s Youth Philanthropy Initiative (YPI).

Pupils will then go head-to-head to win the £3,000 prize for their chosen charity, when a shortlist of teams will present their case to a panel of judges at the YPI final on May 31.

The £3,000 prize is provided by the YPI Scotland, which is funded and managed in Scotland by The Wood Foundation.

The YPI, now in its second year at Stromness Academy, is being carried out as part of the moral and religious education curriculum at the school.
