Band make harmonious discovery on Stroma

Neon Waltz, from Thurso, were exploring Stroma when they found an abandoned harmonium in the old school house.

A band from Thurso were on Stroma, recently, taking publicity shots for their new album, when they came across an abandoned harmonium.

As the guys from Neon Waltz explored the abandoned island, they discovered the derelict school house, and decided to venture inside.

“We opened the door to the schoolhouse, and straight away noticed the harmonium,” the band recalled.

“We had a play with it and it just sounded amazing. So we knew we had to record it!”

Having already planned to try and record a song on Stroma if the weather was good enough, the band were pleased to have found an extra instrument and a piece of forgotten history.

It felt pretty magical, which tied in with the whole experience of the trip,” said guitarist Kevin Swanson.

“I’ve looked across to stroma every other day for my whole life, trying to imagine what it was like in its heyday. Finally getting to spend time on stroma will stay with me forever, as it was one of the most inspiring trips the band has ever had.”
