Ba’ players back on the streets for New Year games

Play in the 2016 New Year’s Day Men’s Ba’ in Kirkwall’s Bridge Street Wynd.

With the Uppies and Doonies having taken one each on Boxing Day, it’s all to play for again tomorrow when players take to the streets of Kirkwall again.

The Boys’ Ba’, which was made by Sigurd Gibson, will be thrown up by Ali Flett at 10am. The Uppie boys took victory in the Christmas game, hitting the goal at 12.49pm on Boxing Day. The winner was 15-year-old Andrew Mulraine, from Kirkwall.

Then, at 1pm, the Men’s Ba’ will get under way, with the ba’, made by George Drever, thrown up by Alan Rorie.

The Men’s Christmas game went to the Doonies — the ba’ reaching the basin in less than 15 minutes. The winner of that encounter was George Rendall.

Both New Year’s Day Ba’s in 2016 were won by the Doonies.
