The New Year's Day Men's Ba' went up, and was eventually awarded to Neil Stockan.
The pack reached the Uppie goal around 5pm, but the ba' only touched the wall at 5.25pm.
After a 45 minute struggle, Neil Stockan, who now lives in Harray, emerged with the trophy. |

The Uppies took the third ba' of the season on New Year's Day.
The ba' was won by Kit Bichan from 1 Nicolson Street,
Kirkwall, after Callum Ross made a break from Junction Road and
touched the Uppie goal.
There was little or no fighting for the trophy, and all was over at 12.23pm. |

Two Orkney people have been made MBEs in the Queen’s New Year Honours list.
Kirkwall’s Billy Stanger - a long-standing member of the Salvation Army - was recognised for services to the community in Orkney.
Acting Major Margaret Walters, also from Kirkwall, was made an MBE for her contribution to the Orkney Independent Cadet battery Army Cadet Force. |
| Witnesses sought to alleged assault |

Police are appealing for witnesses after an alleged assault took place outside the Indian Garden takeaway, in Kirkwall, on Saturday night.
At about 2.30am, a CCTV operator alerted police to the incident on Junction Road.
Following enquiry a 23-year-old male is to be reported to the procurator fiscal. |
| Vandals damage postbox with fireworks |

Police are looking for those responsible for damaging a Royal Mail postbox with fireworks at the weekend.
The incident, relating to the postbox at the junction of Holm Branch and Holm Road, Kirkwall, is thought to have taken place between 5.45pm on Friday, 28 December, and 6.30am the following day.

Plans for one of the UK’s biggest cosmetic makers to turn bog myrtle into an income-earning crop have moved a step closer with nearly £300,000 funding from Highlands and Islands Enterprise and the UHI Agronomy Institute in Orkney.
Boots Company Plc has developed products using the essential oil extracted from bog myrtle, a plant native to the Highlands and Islands, which has properties that slow down the ageing process and is effective in combating acne.
Although the plant grows all over the world, it is the Scottish variety that seems to possess the particular anti-ageing properties. |
| Motorist accused of being four times over drink driving limit |

A 36-year-old man appeared at Kirkwall Sheriff Court during the second week of the festive road safety campaign, charged with drink driving.
He was accused of being over four times the allowed legal alcohol limit and detained in custody, prior to a court appearance. He was bailed to appear at a later date.
Police are warning those who believe they will get away with drink or drug driving to think again.
The force say they will continue to carry out intelligence-led patrols and will be out in numbers across the festive period and beyond in a bid to catch drink drivers. |

The Uppies were victorious again in the Christmas Day's Men's Ba' - with the trophy going to 36-year-old Ian Gorn.
The ba' reached the goal at 4.47pm.
After a prolonged battle, Ian Gorn emerged the winner around 5.15pm. |

15-year-old Jordan Low, playing in his 13th game, was awarded the Christmas Day Ba' after it reached the Uppie goal around noon. |
