Double awards for Orkney sportswomen
Orkney’s sporting Oscars were handed out last night, and it was double delight for Doris Leonard and Karen Wood.
Both picked up two awards, Doris for veteran sportswoman and senior sportsperson of the year, Karen for junior female sportsperson and junior sportsperson.
There were two awards for Orkney Pony Club – the team prize and Sarah Reid, who was judged best coach.
There was also a special award for Alan Clouston, made by the Orkney Island Games Association to recognise Mr Clouston’s outstanding efforts to promote the games in the county.
The full list of winners was:
- Sportsman of the year: Thomas Fay (athletics);
- Sportswoman of the year: Kirsty Brown (Octopush);
- Junior male sportsperson of the year: Shaun Raeburn (swimming);
- Junior female sportsperson of the year: Karen Wood (netball and athletics);
- Veteran sportsman of the year: Norman McLennan (athletics);
- Veteran sportswoman of the year: Doris Leonard (triathlon and cross country);
- Team of the year: Orkney Pony Club;
- Coach of the year: Sarah Reid (pony club);
- Services to sport: Mike Berston (football);
- Photo of the year: Emily Farrer;
- Junior sportsperson of the year: Karen Wood;
- Senior sportsperson of the year: Doris Leonard
