Traffic changes to allow for town centre road maintenance

Kirkwall 's town centre will be closed for a week next month to allow for road resurfacing works.
Castle Street , Broad Street and Palace Road will be affected by resurfacing works from October 3, for approximately one week, depending on the weather.
The road surface has reached the end of its serviceable life and therefore needs to be replaced.
The programme of works is:
One carriageway of Castle Street will be closed, traffic will only be permitted to move from Broad Street to Junction Road , as a one-way system will be in operation.
Junction of Castle Street and Broad Street closed. This will affect Broad Street , Castle Street and Albert Street from 1800 hours.
Broad Street closed between Castle Street and Palace Road , therefore there will be no access for buses or coaches.
Broad Street closed between Castle Street and Palace Road .
Palace Road closed from Broad Street to Watergate. Again no access for buses or coaches will be available.
Palace Road closed between Broad Street and Watergate. This will effectively close Broad Street and Castle Street to large vehicles, with no access for buses or coaches.
Local taxi operators are aware of the resurfacing works and the rank on Broad Street will be suspended until the works are completed.
All the above works may be subject to alterations due to unforeseen circumstances.
The roads will only be closed when a traffic sign is in place. At other times vehicles may be subject to delays.
