Hands on the Past at the Orkney Museum
(Story dated: Saturday, April 2, 2004)

The Orkney Museum's summer exhibition launches today and is aimed at encouraging younger visitors.

Hands on Orkney's Past allows visitors to try their hand at various activities linked to Orkney's past, including identifying famous Orcadians, reconstructing pottery, identifying mystery objects.

This exhibition is a slight departure for Orkney Museum and is designed to encourage younger visitors to learn more about Orkney's Past. It is the brainchild of Cultural Co-ordinator Heritage, Sheila Garson who has vast experience of working with children. She said:

"This is a really exciting exhibition which gives children the opportunity to engage with the past in a fun way. I hope children will enjoy the activities and go away with a greater understanding of Orkney and its past."

The exhibition runs until Saturday, October 2 and admission is free.
