'Old
Guard' return to committee positions

It
was success for the old guard of Orkney Islands Council when
the new committee chairmen were appointed today.
No
newly-elected councillors won power.
- Mrs
Janice Annal retained chairmanship of education.
- Councillor
Jim Foubister continues as chairman of the OICs development committee.
- Councillor
Keith Johnson remains chairman of social services and housing and Mrs
Ann Sutherland was again elected chair of the environment, planning
and protective services.
- Councillor
Mike Drever has become chairman of the OICs recreation and cultural
services committee.
- Captain
Bob Sclater was elected to chair the transportation and infrastructure
committee.
- Councillor
Roderick McLeod, who was previously vice-chairman of the monitoring
and audit committee, takes over as chairman from Fred Groundwater who
lost his seat at the recent council elections.
- The
former vice-chair of the direct services board, Councillor John Hamilton,
was elected chairman in succession to Eoin Scott who failed to get back
into the OIC.
