Honours
loom for the cream of the county's sports personalities The cream of Orkneys sporting personalities will be honoured next month, when the annual Sporting Awards Buffet Dance takes place. The event, which is to be held at the Pickaquoy Centre on Friday, November 8, will see the seven awards sportswoman and sportsman of the year, junior sportsperson of the year, coach of the year, team of the year, services to sport and sports photograph of the year presented to whoever receives the most nominations. Nominees for the senior trophies must be 18 years-old or over and under-18 for the junior trophy. Nominations for each award can be made by any individual or club, and they should detail exactly why their nominee deserves the trophy. Nomination forms are available from the Pickaquoy Centre. The nominations close on Friday, October 25 and a short list of possible winners will be announced in the October 31 edition of The Orcadian. The event emulates an Oscars evening, which will include a buffet of Orkney fayre with wine included in the ticket price of £15. Tickets are on sale from the Pickaquoy Centre, and will be sold at a first come first serve basis. Local band Shogun will be performing at the event. The final decision for all awards will be made on the night of the event, and the winners of the awards will be announced in between the meal and the dance. Further information on the Orkney Sporting Awards Buffet Dance 2002 can be obtained by calling the Pickaquoy Centre on 879900. |
