Anticipation builds ahead of Highland Amateur Cup Final

TFCThe anticipation is building ahead of Saturday’s Highland Amateur Cup Final, with Kirkwall Thorfinn dreaming of a third cup success.

The two-time winners face defending champions Wick Groats in Brora on Saturday afternoon, with two buses, filled to capacity, set to depart the county on Saturday morning.

Thorfinn — winners of the cup in 1988 and 2009 — faced Groats in the 2013 showpiece, a match which Thorfinn would lose 1-0. However, Saturday’s final provides Thorfinn with the opportunity to win the competition in the club’s 125th anniversary year.

Speaking in Thursday’s The Orcadian, manager Bob Adamson said his side would have to play at the peak of their powers to take the cup back to Orkney, but it is a challenge he believes his side will relish.

“They’ve got quality all over the pitch, and we need to watch out for that. I’m expecting a very tough game, but a game I truly believe, we will win.”

The match is scheduled to kick-off at 12.30pm at Brora’s Dudgeon Park.
