Orkney FC prepare for first game under new management

Orkney FC are due to get their North Caledonian League campaign underway today, against defending champions, Golspie Sutherland in Charlie Alway’s debut as manager.Orkney FC were rocked at the surprise resignation of manager, Andrew Corsie in August, and this left the OFC board in a race against time to appoint an individual to lead the team before the season’s start. However, Mr Alway — who was assistant to Mr Corsie — has now stepped into the position on a permanent basis.

Orkney’s league campaign faltered in the closing weeks of last season as Golspie Sutherland pipped them to the league crown, finishing three points ahead of them and ensuring that Orkney FC were runners-up. However, with a new manager, new ideas and a favourable record against their opponents, Orkney FC will be quietly confident. Two high-scoring draws between the two sides in the league were played before Orkney FC got the better of Golspie in the Ness Cup Final courtesy of a 1-0 victory. However, Golspie got their revenge in the Football Times Cup Final, beating the Islanders 2-0.

Kick-off is scheduled for 12:30pm at the King George V Park in Golspie.
