Mammoth weekend of racing as beach race returns

Orkney Motocross Club are preparing for their biggest weekend of the year as the ever-popular Orkney Beach Race comes back around. The race, in its 26th year, is the highlight of the year for many Orkney riders and see’s riders from across the country travel to Orkney to compete. This year, notable entries are last year’s winner and reigning Scottish MX Champion, Peter Mitchell from Banchory. Joining Peter in competing is two-time beach race winner Barry Gray as well as Scottish MX2 rider, Brad Todd.

The weekend’s racing is set to begin on Saturday at Norton in Burray, a change from the usual Heddle Hill. Signing-on is due to be at 8am on both Saturday and Sunday with practice and qualifying for Saturday’s racing due to begin at 9:30am. The day’s first race is scheduled for 11am.

Sunday is the big day with the adult’s three-hour endurance race scheduled to start from 12pm with juniors and intermediates/seniors racing before that.
