Kirkwall Bowling Club President Clinton Rendall hoping for a successful weekend.

Kirkwall Bowling Club is set to welcome 72 players from 24 clubs from throughout Scotland for an open triples competition — the biggest competition ever held by the club. Players from Motherwell, Wishaw, Keith, Wick, Thurso and Shetland — as well as bowlers from Orkney’s clubs — will be competing in the two-day long competition, due to start on Saturday at 9am.

The weekend is the culmination of three years of hard work, dedication and meticulous planning by the club and it’s something that the club “has dreamt about for so long” according to Club President, Clinton Rendall.

Saturday is set to be the busiest day with all 72 bowlers competing on six rinks to determine who qualifies for Sunday’s knockout competition. The first bowl is due to be rolled at 9am on Saturday with play finishing at approximately 7.30pm. Sunday’s action is scheduled to start at 8.30am through to the afternoon where the winners will be crowned.

Spectators are welcome.
