Agricultural shows season kicks off in Sanday

Orkney’s 2015 agricultural shows season kicks off today with the Sanday Show.

The show is held at the in the island’s community park, next to the school, and sees all the best of the islands cattle, sheep, horses, dogs and poultry compete for the Challenge Cup and the Champion of the Showyard title.

Last year’s top prize went to Seaview farm’s two-crop, homebred Suffolk ewe, Killer Queen. The win marked the third year running that Malcolm and Angela Lennie, of Seaview, had taken the title.

The Sanday Show is followed by the East Mainland Agricultural Society’s event in the Riding Club, St Ola, tomorrow and the South Ronaldsay & Burray Show on Wednesday, August 5.

The Dounby Show is up next on Thursday, August 6, and the County Show rounds out the season on Saturday, August 8.
