A new webcam set up by the local RSPB Scotland team is currently thrilling viewers with close-up views of a pair of nesting red-throated divers.

Red-throated divers are very sensitive to disturbance so this is a rare opportunity to get close to these special birds. Click here to access.

To see red-throated divers in real life, the RSPB Scotland team recommends a visit to the new Birsay Moors hide (rspb.org.uk/birsaymoors), where a different pair is currently raising a chick.

Up to 100 red-throated diver pairs nest in Orkney — roughly a tenth of all the red-throated divers in the UK.

The webcam was funded through RSPB Scotland’s Enjoy Wild Orkney project, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the European Regional Development Fund.
