The 2015 Island Games begin today, Saturday, with 80 Orcadian athletes, and around 50 spectators, in Jersey for the competition.

Held every two years, the Island Games pits Orkney against 23 other islands and this year around 3,000 competitors are expected to take part.

Orkney will be competing in archery, athletics, badminton, clay pigeon shooting, sailing, golf, triathlon, cycling, swimming and small bore shooting.

At the 2013 Games, held in Bermuda, Team Orkney returned to the county with six medals — one gold, four silvers and a bronze.
