A funding application for the North Isles Landscape Partnership Scheme has been submitted to the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Proposals under the scheme include tackling at-risk built heritage, training to promote traditional skills, heritage awareness and providing greater support to the  work of the communities with isle community funds to pursue local projects.

Approval in October 2015 would provide over £170k to help develop projects in greater detail for submission by August 2017.

Success in the next stage would secure over £2 million, plus further funding from other sources, to go towards a range of projects including boat building, archaeological work, oral history initiatives, a North Isles Heritage Trail and excursions to the less-visited smaller isles.

Stuart West, the OIC’s development and marine planning manager said: “We would like to thank everyone involved in the build up to this point from our time visiting the isles, participating in workshops, providing comments, responding to queries and project ideas.

We look forward to the funding decision in October to progress these ideas into reality.”
