Views sought for flood risk consultation

A consultation that will shape the first flood risk management plan for the county has been launched.

The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) and 14 local plan districts, which encompass all local authorities within Scotland, are jointly consulting on the future direction and delivery of flood risk management across the country. The aim is to ensure the most effective use of shared resources by targeting areas where the greatest benefit of flood risk intervention can be realised.

The online consultation is available at https://frm-scotland.org.uk/ until Tuesday June 2.

By following links to the Orkney section, information can be found on the main sources and impacts of coastal and other forms of flooding in eight potentially vulnerable areas in the county, as identified by a national flood risk assessment. Potential measures to address flooding are described in draft delivery plans – with the opportunity to provide views, comments and suggestions.
