Man admits causing death by careless driving

A man who admitted causing a road traffic accident that killed Nigel Mills, former OIC director of harbours, has had his sentence deferred for reports.

Forty-seven-year old William Couston pleaded guilty to careless driving on the A9 at the junction with Alness Business Park.

Yesterday, Tuesday, Inverness Sheriff Court heard that on March 6, 2014, Captain Mills, 55, and his wife were thrown from their motorcycle after Couston pulled out in front of them in his vehicle.

Captain Mills died as a result of his injuries and his wife was seriously injured in the accident, the court heard.

The case will call again on June 2, and Couston’s bail was continued.
