Care home options to be revisited

Orkney Islands Council is to take a fresh look at the costs and options for either refurbishing St Rognvald House, as previously favoured by the authority, or indeed go forward with an option to build a new care facility.

At the meeting of the Full Council on Tuesday, it was North Isles councillor Stephen Hagan who raised the issue, saying that he was concerned about any impact refurbishing the present facility would have on residents St Rognvald’s, as it would mean that folk living there would have to be displaced to Stromness while the work was progressed.

He also said that this would be a good time to take a fresh look at the costs of both options, so that councillors had a clear idea of the financial implications going forward.

At Tuesday’s meeting councillors agreed that a report be prepared by officials, which will then be discussed at a future meeting of the policy and resources committee.
