Food and drink from the Northern Isles were showcased in London yesterday, at an event hosted by isles MP Alistair Carmichael.

The VisitScotland reception featured various Orkney and Shetland produce. Orkney was represented by Barbara Foulkes of VisitOrkney, while Shetland was represented by VisitShetland manager Steve Mathieson and Shetlandeli owner, Jill Franklin.

Mr Carmichael said: “In Orkney and Shetland we are incredibly lucky to have high quality food and drink readily available in our local shops and supermarkets. I was delighted to host the VisitScotland reception and provide a platform for our local producers to showcase why they are best in the UK.

“Guests were able to sample a range of local food, like Shetland smoked salmon, Shetland chutneys, Orkney oatcakes, fudge and cheese. These were complemented by choice of local beers from four breweries along with Highland Park whisky.

“The produce received a great reaction from the attendees and I am very grateful to Barbara, Steve and Jill for making the event so successful. I would also like to thank our local producers for supplying their products to the event and for their continued hard work in keeping Orkney and Shetland food and drink on the map.”
