Locals are being offered the chance to take a look around the new Council building at the Pierhead in Stromness today

The Council is holding an open day at the new facility which will allow people to see inside the building for the first time as well as contribute to a decision on a name for the building.

Two sessions are being run; one from 11am to 1pm and one from 6pm to 8pm. The public can attend either one.

Each session will see a presentation from Stromness Councillor James Stockan, from local historian Bryce Wilson and from Malcolm Fraser Architects, who designed the building. Malcolm Fraser and Neil Munro, who led the team, will also run a workshop during each session on a potential name for the development.

The new building is the centrepiece of the Council’s pierhead redevelopment project. It will house a Council customer service desk, police counter provision and a new library facility for the town. Future development of the building could see some other Council services located here.
