Fatal road accident outside Finstown

Police have confirmed that a man has died following the road traffic accident on the Kirkwall to Stromness road yesterday morning.

Three vehicles were involved in the accident, which happened near the Binscarth Cottages, outside Finstown, just before noon.

It is understood that an 84-year-old driver of a car died as a result of his injuries and another person was taken to Balfour Hospital for treatment.

The road was closed, from the Harray junction to Baikie’s Stores, in Finstown, and diversions put in place, while police carried out investigations into the crash.

The road was reopened at around 2.30am this morning.
