Visit by German jet-ski adventurer

A German jet-ski adventurer – who ultimately plans to travel between Germany and Canada on his machine – called into Kirkwall Harbour for an overnight stay.

Markus Adam tied his specially customised Yamaha Waverunner machine up at the harbour yesterday, after a six-hour trip down from Shetland, in what he described as the worst sea conditions he has seen on his trip so far. Prior to that leg of his journey he crossed the North Sea from Norway to Lerwick.

He had originally planned to make the trip between Hamburg and Montreal this year, however has decided to put that journey off until next year, after he was delayed while in Kristiansund, Norway, after his jet-ski was stolen.

He explained that he managed to get it returned, but the delay caused him to change his plans, and put off his trip to Canada until 2015.

He is due to leave Kirkwall this morning, Thursday, heading direct to Arbroath,before heading for Lowestoft, crossing to Rotterdam, and ultimately back to Germany.

While in Orkney he was assisted by Colin Gregg from Kirkwall, who was part of a team who took part in two long-range jet-ski trips, one round the UK, and the other between Orkney and Monaco.
