Six pupils from Japan’s Kamaishi Super Science School are in Orkney this week, finding out more about renewable energy and meeting with fellow pupils from Orkney’s secondary schools.

Having visited renewables sites in the county, accompanied by pupils from Stromness Academy and Kirkwall Grammar School, tonight, Wednesday, the visitors will give a presentation on their school and the effect of the 2011 tsunami in the Pier Arts Centre, Stromness, at 7pm.

Kamaishi was heavily damaged by the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami. Around 1,250 city residents were killed or are missing, including family of pupils from the school.
