Not too late to fill out crofting survey

Orkney MSP Liam McArthur is encouraging local crofters, like status farmers and anyone else in the isles with an interest in crofting regulations and support to provide their views on how the current arrangements might be improved.

Along with his Shetland colleague, Tavish Scott, Mr McArthur launched a survey earlier in the summer, seeking the views of constituents in the Northern Isles.

Following a meeting with Crofting Commission Convener, Susan Walker last week, Mr McArthur is reminding crofters that it is not too late to share their thoughts on Crofting Grants, Croft Housing Grants and general issues to do with the regulation of crofting land.

Commenting, Mr McArthur said,

“All the evidence shows that Orkney and Shetland differ greatly from other parts of the Crofting Counties, and our needs in terms of regulation and support are often quite distinct. Before making any proposals to Scottish Ministers about possible changes, however, it is important that we hear directly from those affected.”

“If anyone with an interest in crofting in the isles would still like to fill in the survey, it can be accessed online at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/HPSXZ29 or a paper copy can be obtained from my constituency office.”
