Work on a new Children’s House for Orkney, at Watersfield, Kirkwall, begins today, Monday.

The new house, which is being constructed by Orkney Builders, replaces the former Camoran facility on the Holm Road.

Head of children and families and criminal justice at Orkney Health and Care, Marie O’Sullivan, said:  “A new fit-for-purpose Children’s Home has been an aspiration for the Council and Orkney Health and Care for some years – so it’s exciting to see what will be a vital part of our care provisions for looked after children here in Orkney now at construction stage.”

The new children’s house will be located within Phase Three of the OIC’s Watersfield housing development made up of a mix of detached and semi-detached housing and self-build plots sites available on the open market.

Construction is expected to be completed in spring 2015.
