Kirkwall Regatta’s anniversary weekend

This is a special weekend for Orkney Sailing Club — with the 125th annual Kirkwall Regatta set to take place.

The event is held on the first Saturday of August each year, with people able to watch all the sailing action taking place in Kirkwall Bay.

The racing actually begins this evening, with dinghy and yacht pursuit races, before the main contest starts tomorrow morning at 11am with a variety of classes, including yachts, dinghies, skiffs and yoles.

The weekend is then to be rounded off with a celebratory dinner, trophy presentation and dance in the Girnel.
