Celebrating World Heritage Day

Celebrate the Spirit of the Stones at the Ring of Brodgar.
The Ring of Brodgar – one part of Orkney’s World Heritage Site

To mark World Heritage Day today, Friday, a “pop-up” exhibition of replica Neolithic artifacts, is being  presented by Historic Scotland rangers at the VisitScotland information centre in Kirkwall.

Vistiors today will also have the chance to meet and talk to Historic Scotland Rangers, Sandra and Elaine, about the work they do around the Heart of Neolithic Orkney World Heritage Site.

Historic Scotland ranger Sandra Miller said: “Orkney has some incredible heritage, which people travel the world over to visit.

“Hopefully, this will encourage local people to come and learn more about it, and to celebrate the fact that, as a World Heritage Site, these islands are part of an elite group which includes the likes of the Taj Mahal, the Great Pyramids of Giza, and Machu Pichu in Peru.”

The exhibition runs until April 22.
