£30,000 drugs haul in Orkney

Police in Orkney have recovered drugs including ecstasy, cocaine, and cannabis, with a combined street value of almost £30,000 following what they describe as the execution of a number of intelligence-led drugs search warrants.

Cannabis with a street value of more than £6,000 was recovered along with a high four-figure sum of cash following a number of searches at properties in the Kirkwall and Stromness areas on Thursday, April 27.

Following the execution of another warrant last Friday in connection with the previous recoveries, officers seized cannabis with a street value of around £20,000 and a ‘low four-figure sum’ of cash.

Ecstasy and cocaine with a street value worth around £2,000 were also recovered during the operations.

A number of people will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal in Kirkwall as a result.

Detective Sergeant David Hall said: “I would like to thank members of the community for their assistance and information in connection with these inquiries, which were assisted by officers from the Community Investigation Unit based at Inverness.”

He added: “Targeting crime involving drugs is a priority to ensure the area remains one of the safest places to live and work. There is no place for drugs in our communities and we work hard to make the region a hostile environment for such crime.

“I would like to remind the local community that they can play the most crucial role of all in helping us do this by telling us when and where suspicious activity is happening. By having the confidence to tell us your concerns we can make it very difficult for criminals to operate.

“I would encourage anyone with concerns to contact Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 if you would prefer to remain anonymous.”
